Accreditation in General
Accreditation is an endorsement of a conformity assessment body’s (CAB's) competence, credibility, independence and integrity in carrying out its conformity assessment activities. In everyday language the terms accreditation and certification are often used interchangeably. In the conformity assessment industry however, these terms have very different and specific meanings.
In simple terms Certification Bodies are known as “Accredited Bodies”. Certificate issued by the Certification Bodies are known as “Accredited Certificates”.
It is Okay to state that your organization has been “certified” or “registered” because their meanings are equivalent for practical purposes. But inaccurate to state that it has been “accredited” (Unless your organization is a certification / registration body)
IBOCA assesses and accredits certification bodies (CABs) that demonstrate competence to audit and certify organizations conforming to management systems and standards. Accreditation ensures the impartiality and competence of the CB and fosters confidence and acceptance of the CB's certifications by end users in the public and private sectors.
